Panthers Logo Gets Makeover For 2012
With the acquisition of Cam Newton last year to fill the need for a new Quarterback, the front office decided it was time for an update of the logo. As a fan from the initial year of the organization as an expansion team way back in 1995, I was a little hesitant to a revamp of the logo - thinking it was fine as it was. Although, I've always thought that they should use the alternate one a little more often (a full panther body - reverse of the one to the right).
Since Nike will be taking over as the official lead supplier of NFL gear in 2012, ousting Reebok a division of Adidas-Solomon, it was suspected that Nike might do some uniform upgrades to some teams, Panthers being one of them.
Lettering Gets Updated, Too
The new lettering is simple with a few cat scratches strategically placed. This change might take a while to grow on me. I agree with the masses that the graffiti-style lettering looked more fierce and probably goes with the new cat head better.
Maybe a meld of the two would be best...use the new lettering only for "Panthers" and use the graffiti-style font for "Carolina".
The blue has never been real constant in the past, kind of somewhere around the traditional Carolina Blue but has been toned darker and has even leaned toward teal and even more Periwinkle at times.
With the update to the logo, giving the cat a more fierce of a look, the color has been officially clarified as Electric Blue.
The cat head is a little more rounded and the mouth is not nearly as opened and looks more natural. Whiskers have been shortened and changed from white to the Electric Blue along with the nose.
I must admit that I really like the changes. I saw some of the proposals and was afraid that there would end up being too much Electric Blue, but they got the balance just right.
